Pattern question

$

I created a set of tapped holes that have external references and are located about an extruded hole that also has external references. I have 4 extruded holes that need these tapped holes around them.  Right now all I can think to do is measure the distances between the extruded holes and then use a distance pattern to get my tapped holes in the correct place. But if i do it this way then if i move the extruded hole then my set of tapped holes will not be in the right place in the other locations. I'm thinking there is a better way?

The picture attached shows the 4 holes I need to pattern.

Switch Simplified Rep without redoing BOM Balloons on drawing?

$

From what I can tell, if I want to change the model representation (using a simplified rep) that is used in a view and a repeat region BOM, one must change them both separately.  Either one is changed/switched, the dwg deletes all the attachments and balloons that have been organized to each component, and this is regardless of which one is done first.

Does anyone know how to swap both the view and the Repeat Region Representations so that the balloons and attachments for the remaining components (the ones not excluded by the simp. rep.) are not lost?

Going to creo 2

Ok, so, I tried loading creo 2 on my system....and it promptly WIPED OUT the Workspace I was in, making it unreadable to me trying the creo elements/pro 5.0 M180 I was previously using.  Nice.  Way to go PTC!  So much for compatability.....

Ok, so, any tips on what takes getting used to and what you like/hate about it?

Thx!

Just how do you chain curves in Sketch mode?

$

Up to this point I've just struggled through picking entire profiles in sketch entity by entity.  Surely there is a method to chain select curves in a sketch.  For such an elementary thing I am a little embarrased to ask how to chain select entities, but I just haven't found the secret.  Just how is this done?

I've looked through Creo's Quick Reference Card, but don't see an answer for this simple action.

The most logical way of selecting by chain would be through the Shift key because Control allows adding curve by curve.  Shift key also is used for chain selecting surface chains.

Please help me solve this mystery.

Creo-2 Using iges from drawing in a part

I realise that we use Creo in a non-standard way, but one of things that I do a lot is export sketched lines from a drawing into an iges file, and then import that iges into a part, and use the curves in the imported iges as sweep trajectories.

In WF4, this worked well.  All line segments stayed as segments, and I was able to use the curves as trajectories.  Now in Creo, neither of those is true.

Problem 1) When an iges with multiple lines is imported into a part, if any straight line has intentional breaks in it, the line is no longer broken, rather it is converted into on continuous line. (in WF4 the lines kept the breaks)

Problem 2) Curves in an iges are not usable as trajectories for a sweep.  Instead I am forced to create a new sketch on top of the iges curves (by projecting the lines of the iges on top of themselves) and use that sketch for the trajectory. (In WF4, iges lines were usable as sweep trajectories)

I've tried all the options in the import dialog to no avail.  Am I missing something?

Flat pattern not working in Creo 2.0 sheetmetal

I am not able to produce a flat pattern or unbend the part below, I have tried and have been successful in creating a simplier pattern however.

Are there limitations of the flat pattern tool which I am missing? Or a step I have obviously missed?

I have wateched a few video tutorials but can't spot what I am doing wrong. I have also attached the part file.

Also I am unsing Creo 2.0 student edition M090 if that makes a difference.

best practice update to creo 2.0 from Creo/Elements 5.0

We are getting ready to upgrade our Creo/Elements 5.0 to Creo 2.0.  We have just upgraded our Windchill from 9.1 to 10.2 and are ready to do Creo as well.

I am wondering if it would be the best practice to unisntall the current installation of Creo/Elements 5.0 BEFORE we install Creo 2.0?  We have 64 bit Windows 7 machines.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, James

Challenged with Pro Mold

We are on our 2nd year with Creo.  We are getting better with the software in most respects but we are almost at a stand still with designing dies in the Pro Mold software extension.

Today we went back through the training material found in Precision LMS, and it doesn't cover what we need to do in a typical die design.  We don't know whether this means that Pro Mold is not very capable of doing the type of work we need to do or if we just need the right training to get the ball rolling.

We have challenges of complexity that seem to baffle Pro Mold.  We have dies that have progressive and multiple impressions.  There are staggered depths leading off the die face into the impressions.  Many times there are flipped impressions which require a lock depth transition.  Each impression typically has a varied lock depth.  We need to use our flash, gutter and finish impression that are in our die with a seperate trim operation that includes multiple dies.

We do know that Pro Mold is quite backwards compared to what we've seen in ZW CAD.

1) Each Creo die file generates numerous other files which means more things to retain and not accidentally seperate from the main die file.

2) The rules with Creo's solids creation sets up a lot of obstacles on the way to results.  Pro Mold tries to hide the trouble incurred with splitting the one solid in 2 halves.  In what I've seen it isn't possible to split up something that was brought in as a solid.  I would like to be able to pare down this solid before hollowing this impression out of the die.

3) Once the impression has been hollowed out and the dies are split any remaining work needed done to the die has to be done to both die halves.

4) If you have depth with the quilt that splits the dies you can only split one half at a time.  Our dies include flash depth and gutter so we can't save both halves with one split operation.

In what we've seen it appears that Pro Mold doesn't offer us anything but the ability to save a shrink feature in the feature tree.  This is an awfully expensive option package for just adding shrink.

I'm saying what we've run into at this point.  Perhaps we just haven't got the advanced training necessary to see the beauty of the Pro Mold package.  Perhaps we could get better results if we opted to purchase another extension such as Advanced Assembly instead of Pro Mold.  (Advanced Assembly includes the same shrink feature option).

Our line of work is with Closed Impression Forging Dies.

Does anyone out there know a training source that would be excellent with Pro Mold?

Based off what our issues are would anyone know how to get around these issues, perhaps with a different methodology?

Would it help if we switched from ProMold to Advanced Assembly.

I will attach an example that shows the challenges that we face in a typical die.

Not sure if it's a bug or feature?

In style feature how do you import and align images in trace sketches of style feature, problem is when you use fit with the dimension bar horizontally or vertically the "scale"*  resizes too even when not locked.

Ideally i believe when you fit horizontally only and only horizontal scale should resize (when not locked),not the vertical scale. and when you fit vertically using vertical dimension bar only vertical scale to resize

So am i doing something wrong? or this is a bug or a feature.

Generating images from Views

$

I often need to generate high resolution images for all views of top level assembly. I tried to make a mapkey but it works to produce single image. Here are some issues i got :

1. Even when i use to rember keyboard inputs, it still asks for filename, page size and resolution.. which takes lot of time and interrupts

2. For quite sometime, it stopped taking user inputs at all and accpets defaults. I know i didnt make it that way initially

How can i automatically create images which are named after their view-name with extension jpg and a non defualt resolution of 300? Or at least i can change such defualts which will reduce time for each save as operation?

Any help is appreciated.

My colleague wants to open the same drawing and start to create view with new sheet (i.e)11th sheet

The same time I am working in the same cad drawing but it has only 10 sheet .

After My colleague have completed his work & saving the file in the same working folder (Note: still I am working with the same drawing)

Later I save the file in the same working folder .. Will it udated that 11 th sheet in saved drawing what I saved ?

Note: We dont have data management application
