gun tube rifling

$

Hello all,

I am trying to create internal rifling in a gun tube and could use some help.

1.  I did this using a blend and created multiple cross sections down the axis of the gun tube.  It works but is a brute force method and is not elegant.  Meaning if you want to control the pitch of that blend, it become more difficult.  You would have to figure out the distance between cross sections and their angle of rotation.

2.  I tried swept blend and added a twist but that only goes form +/- 120 so if you want more than that it becomes more tricky.

3.  I tried a sweep but i could not keep my cross seciton perpendicular to the diameter for the tube.

4.  I tried a sweep with a trajpar function using a graph but could not get it to work.

Looking for some help.  If someone know how to do this with sweep or trajpar that would be cool.  If there is a better way then by all means.

Thank you.

Sheet Metal Flat State Calculation difference between PRO-E & Inventor.

Hello ,

I would like to know how any of you have managed a transitition from Autocad Inventor to PRO-E for sheet metal components, especially for flat state.

Current Scenario in my organiztion : Inventor is used for developing sheet metal drawings. The Flat state dimensions for Sheet metal component is also given in the same drawing. This is done by inputting the k-factor values as per sheet thickness and material.

After migration to PRO-E , for the same sheet metal component , after inputting the same k-factor value , we have a difference in the flat state value of the sheet metal component.

This could have an impact on the sheet metal component during manufacturing.

Why does PRO-E and Inventor throw up different flat state values for the same k-factor , thickness and Material?

Has anyone come across a similar scenario?

Currently you can create a planar cross section and included quilts, but not a n offset cross section.

Would anyone else like to see this funtionality added to offset cross section?

K-factor Value input in PRO-E

Hello ,

I am moving from Inventor to PRO_E .

Inventor has a capability , where in I can feed a table with K-factor values and corresponding material thickness(as shown in screenshot).

I could just select the neccessary thickness (and associated k-factor from the table would be automatically applied) for the sheet metal part and correspondingly the flat state will be calculated.

In PRO-E can anyone suggest if the same capability is available? I could only find an option in sheet metal parameters, where i have to manually input the k-factor everytime I want to change. This is unlike Inventor.

Bill of Material Information Disappears after regeneration

Hi,

I'm hoping this is something simple or just a malfunction of some sort, however, I'm having a issue with my Bill or Material table.

I have all the correct parameters linked to the desired coloms and the correct information displays in the coloms when I initially enter it. However when I either regenerate the drawing, or even move the drawing around the information disappears. Am I missing something, or is there an option I need to change.

I looked into some of the Post-Regeneration options to see if there was anything strange there that would cause the information to disappear upon regeneration.

Please, If you have any knowledge or if anyone else has experienced this, please comment below. I cannot print out this drawing because the information keeps disappearing and thus this is holding up our production process.

Thanks in advance.

Using Area Driven Relation to Control Dimension

I am wondering if there is a way to control a dimension such that the area of the sketch will be a given value. What I am trying to do is control one sketch based on a height diemsion and the area of a different sketch. I have one sketch that I modify. Then a second sketch that has locked dimensions besides height is meant to be 2 times the area and I currently just modify height until I get it to be what I want it to be. I am trying to automate that process,

Thanks,

While sketching to create for example an extrusion or revolve, I often have the problem that I'm working in a rather large item (size diameter 8.000mm), and that I have to draw something with size 100mm, tangential to the large object.

In the sketch, the circle or ellipse is visualized as a polygon. But because of the large differences in size, the polygon is very bad approximation.

The drawing will be OK, but it's sometimes annoying to draw a tangential line that doesn't touch visibly.

It would be very interesting to be able to refine the current view, or at least refine the settings and the continue drawing.

Can I do this one way or another?

Filled text

Hello

I´m modeling electrical enclosures and labels for them with Creo Parametric 2.0. I´m trying to make them by modeling a label base where necessary texts are cut extruded. Then I make a drawing and print it to the aluminum foil. Obviously by using this "technique" only outlines of the text is printed and the gaps between the text outlines are so small that the result is not looking very nice.

The question:

Is there way to put a filled text into a planar surface of a part? I know that I could add a text in to the drawing but then the text wouldn´t follow the model and copy pasting the model to the next project wouldn´t work.

Symbol with text of variable height

I'm on a symbol kick at the moment. I am trying to create a custom symbol like the one in the attached pic:
gward- 2014-06-17 08-33-55.jpg

Variable text in the bottom and top half. The top half is \dim\, so I can pick a dimension on the drawing to insert into the circle. In this case I want the dimension of "Ø.06 [1.5]"  (the latter being mm of course), but I really want this dimension inside the top half of the circle. We don't want this unweidly dimension hanging out in space like it is doing.

I want the circle to stay the same size but I want this symbol to have the text shrink-to-fit.... you know, like in a $100 Microsoft Office Excel speadsheet cell. The way it works at the moment, the text height drives the circle diameter, but I want it to be the other way around. I'm sure my $15,000+ Pro/E software can make this happen too, I just can't seem to work out how and I've been all over the Help files and the discussion boards here. Does anyone know how to do this? And yes, I know the dimension will be small but that's okay.

It's Creo/Elements/WF5.0.

Cosmetic feature in start part

In my old position we used a start part for all our new ProE parts. It had default datums planes etc., but we also had a cosmetic feature, a sketch of a circle about an inch in diameter. It was never used for anything, and at first I used to just delete it from my parts, and everyone else would jump on me and tell me to leave it in. Their explanation was that it affects the software's perception of the scale of the model or something. The idea is that even if the model becomes larger than the cosmetic feature, with the addition of later features, it somehow is pinned to a particular "regeneratability" because it started out as a particular size. (I never knew files had memory.) I should add our parts were mostly around hand-sized, so the cosmetic circle, while usually smaller than the final part, was never an order of magnitude smaller.

This always sounded like a load of dingo's kidneys to me, but after that discussion I would leave it in like a good boy, because it's not about me, is it?

Has anyone else heard of such a thing? Do you do something similar in your start part? I ask because I am making some templates for my current job and wonder if I should put this feature in it. Creo/Elements 5.0.

How to pull out part from sub asm in assembly

Under main assembly ,I have subassembly which created with one part(default constraint used) like

Engine .asm (main assm)

     piston.asm(sub asm)

piston ring .prt (part-under subasm piston.asm)

I want to pull out piston ring.prt from piston.asm (sub asm) & want to make it separate part direct under main asm (engine .asm ) becuse I dont want piston ring.prt place under piston.asm (sub asm).

Note:

In proe we have an option to make sub asm from individual ppart ( move to assembly option), I am looking vice versa

PTC Creo 3.0 F000 releases in July. There is still time...

Some interesting new options...

Missing references would be easier to work on in Creo 3.0,drawing note entering option is now WYSIWYG..

I hope they have fixed the soooooooooooo many bugs....

Save a copy of part but reference orignal part

I have 3 similar parts to design. So I decided to make one part that has features that all three parts share. Now I want to be able to copy this base part 3 times and start adding features unique to each of the three parts. The issue I am having a problem with is I also want those 3 copied parts to reference the base part. So if I change a feature in the base part then my 3 unique parts will also update.

How do I copy the base part 3 times and have those copies reference the original part?

Circular references and "Extrude to selected..."

(First off, I don't own the piping and cabling extension. This is pretty rare work for us, so it's isn't worth it to buy.)

One model, two questions:

1. Why are there circular references in this model? Initially, I created STRAIGHT_LTI_1, repeated it as needed, and replaced each "STRAIGHT" by copy. This created a circular reference for every STRAIGHT. I eventually built them each from scratch just to relieve the loops (I can't stand unintended loops in my models, even if they aren't causing any issues). I had to add a couple different STRAIGHT pipes in the run (5 and 6, currently) and I got the same problem using the repeat and replace method. I've tried checking everywhere I know to, can't figure out why there's still circular references with those 2 pipes.

2. This assembly is a good example of an issue I'm having. In a family table, is there a way to incorporate an "Extrude to selected" type extrude? I'd love to just have several instances of STRAIGHT that reference a different face of an elbow to extrude the pipe to. From what I've found online, this either isn't an option, or is included in the Advanced Assembly Extension, something else I don't own. Any help with this?

Thanks

Hi all,

Do anyone know,How to convert an animation created in creo2.0 can be converted into a pdf?

Because all the members in other departments cant view the cad file as we do with creo2.0,

I tried the UPDF format which converts the 3D model into the pdf ,in which we can view the 3D model as we view in creo,But the problen is the user can see all the internal parts of the assembly.
